- Secure the bottom of the box with a minimum of four tape strips
- Create a cushion using crumpled packing paper at the bottom of the box
- Wrap delicate items loosely in packing paper for protection and place them securely in the box. For extra fragile items, opt for bubble wrap
- For silverware, use acid-free tissue paper.
- Begin by packing large and heavy items first, filling any gaps with smaller items.
- Regularly check the weight of the carton by lifting it; ideally, it should not exceed a weight that one person can comfortably lift.
- To ensure the box is crush proof, fill any gaps with crumpled packing paper.
- Create a solid base for stacking by leaving a small gap at the top of the carton and cushioning it with crumpled paper before sealing.
- Clearly label the cartons with the designated room in your new home, and a brief description of the contents.
- If items are fragile, mark the carton as FRAGILE.
- Bundle long-handled tools together with tape or rope.
- Avoid moving items in a frozen state to prevent internal damage that may not be covered.

Logistics, Special Items, and Preparations
Remember to discuss any parking or access issues concerning both addresses and timescale issues particularly if the move is long distance.
Decide exactly what you are taking and what you are leaving and if anything changes between the survey and the move please let us know.
Some items like fine art, antiques, wine collections or plants may require specialist attention, please be sure to discuss this with your estimator at the time of the survey.
We are not allowed to tamper with your mains services so make arrangements well in advance for any disconnection and re connection of appliances, this restriction also applies to light fittings (a basic fitting is legally required to replace any fittings that you remove).
Run your freezer down and de-frost if at all possible as moving in a frozen state can cause internal damage that we cannot cover, as would be the case to any deterioration of any contents.

Filling, Labelling, and Handling Instructions
Where there are no small items to fill gaps use crumpled packing paper leaving no gaps, this helps in making the carton crushproof.
Leave a small gap at the top of the carton and cushion using crumpled paper so as when sealed it provides a solid base to enable stacking of same sized cartons.
Label cartons clearly, write your name (if storage is required) the room in your new home that the carton is to be placed in, and a general description of the contents.
Clearly mark the carton FRAGILE if this is the case
Long handled tools etc can be bundled together with tape, and oversized fragile items are best left to our crews, your estimator would have pointed these out and discussed this with you on your initial survey.
If at all possible as moving in a frozen state can cause internal damage that we cannot cover, as would be the case to any deterioration of any contents.
Finally relax and leave it to the experts.
